When stresses and disappointments in your life feel overwhelming, it is important to know that you’re not alone. Sometimes the first small step of asking for help brings important opportunities. My aim is to understand and help you gain perspective and care for your feelings, thoughts and behaviors. Because you have your own unique struggles, I will listen attentively to your very personal experiences and needs.
Working together in collaboration, I will assist you in developing personal skills to resolve difficult situations, relationships and patterns that may be keeping you from moving forward in your life. You may also discover new ways of experiencing the things that matter most to you, growing in positive ways you may not yet anticipate, and enjoying more beauty in your life.
I am a skillful listener, empathic psychotherapist and person, with years of professional experience and training. As a certified Focusing Oriented Psychotherapist and supervisor, focusing is central to all I do. My specialties include the treatment of recent and early-childhood trauma, issues of creativity, depression, anxiety, relationships and sleep-related problems. I am also a certified and active EMDR practitioner and faculty member and supervisor for the Focusing Oriented Relational Psychotherapy Program. Susan Rudnick, LCSW and I offer “Rest Well Tonight,” a focusing-oriented approach to assisting people who experience difficulties falling or staying asleep, are wakeful during the night, or wake feeling un-rested.
In addition to a passionate engagement with my work as a psychotherapist, I love to draw and paint. Visual art compliments my work as a therapist, as creative process is a thread that runs through both endeavors. My drawings and paintings have appeared in a number of venues. I write about my integration of psychotherapy and creativity in my blog: Stepping Through Beauty. You may see samples of my artwork at here.
